What computer optimizer and adware/spyware removal tool actually works?

I have seen a lot of them but I heard they are just a bunch of bull and don't work. Anyone recommend one that you can actually see changes? Also any spyware/adware removal tools? I am using a Windows XP Pro computer with WMC. I also only use Firefox to browse the web. Freeware or Shareware accepted.

1. dude u ned an antivirus and getting norton is the best anti virus on the market and the anti virus spyware remover so its around 40$ and is really good man
2. Norton is NOT the best on the market. Kaspersky is. But still, you can't normally get rid of ALL adware with just one program. Try SpyBot, Adaware, and Spyware Killer. Boy Wonder
