Anti Spyware

What are good anti-spyware programs that are free. Is it worth to pay the money and just get spysweeper.?

I am running Vista Basic, it has Windows Defender. Im not that impressed with that, also have Norton internet security. What are the best anti-spyware programs, preferably free to run, or is it better just to get one of the pay versions of anti-spyware Thanks for all the recommendations, but ad-adware is not compatible with Vista. i used ad-adware and it changed the color settings which means it is not compatible.

  1. YES! Spysweeper is the best Anti-Spyware you can get. It is great software. They release updates as often as every 3 hours if thats how often you want em. Not only that but its the best preventetive and removal software for spyware. It is worth it. The updates are very comprehensive and they make definitions for new spyware quickly. It's great.
  2. Vista, with it's Windows Defender, and Norton Internet Security already have a spyware alert system with each of them. But if you want extra findings, and security, www.lavasoft.com (Ad-Aware) is a well known and well reviewed Anti-Spyware program that has been around for awhile.
  3. I use the free versions of Ad Aware, Spybot Search & Destroy, AVG Antivirus, and of course, Windows Defender, which is free. Up until recently, they did the trick for me. Unfortunately, while downloading cracks for a piece of software I wanted to try, I downloaded a couple of trojans. To its credit, AVG Antivirus warned me, but I let my greed and curiousity rule. It took a commercial product to get rid of the trojans (Trojan Remover) but I'm still not sure I've got all the malware on my computer, as it still acts strange at times. Now I would consider a commercial product, as none of the above pieces of software is the best of its kind.
  4. Personally, I like MCAFEE antivirus security! You can also download a 90 day free trial from mcafee website! Lavasoftware and adware latest verison is quite gud and free too!
  5. Don't bother with Spysweeper. Lavasoft's Ad-Aware is free and so is SpyBot Search and Destroy. Download both those programs and run them regularly. None of the spyware removal programs out there will get everything so it's always best to run at least two of them. The 2 that I mentioned coupled with Windows Defender should rid you of most of the spyware that you come across. Norton's Security Suite is a resource hog and so are many of the other programs out there. The programs that I mentioned should do an adequate job for you if you run them regularly. Good luck, Captain Computer
  6. spysweeper is one of the best, i would say spybot is a little better, but spysweeper will auto update, and gives real time protection. its good for newbies.
  7. most virus are spread through IE. IE is not a safe browser. you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus. i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser. as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage. besides, firefox is much smaller than IE, so it run faster than IE. download firefox for free, Just have a try: http://www.openawindow.info/firefox/ Good Luck !!!
