Anti Spyware

I have a question about ewido? I just installed ewido and ad-aware se(though it seems they serve the ame purpose).I had to install this because I caught a virus yesterday that AVG could remove.But ewido did the job.My question is what is the resident shield?I am no computer expert and after my 30 day trial it will remove the resident shield and automatic updates.Does the removal of the resident shield just mean that they wil not alert me when I get malware and I have to scan periodicaly?It seems that the automatic updates are not that imperative to the security of my comp, but I am not too sure.This is just a conjecture.Is there free software that I can download that works just as well as ewido?If so, can you recomend it to me?I have 29 days left before trial ends for ewido.Thank You!

Serious Problems,Computer Shuts down,Registry Errors.? The last few days have been hell...after going to a website www.myspacecounters.com [DONT GO THERE] I recieved around 100 different viruses and trojans,some which apparently did serious damage to my registry..I've ran all my programs and have successfully deleted about 95% of the problems..however..when I turn on my computer in regular mode..and I perform an AVG Complete Scan or Ewido Complete Scan,my PC just shuts off half way through it...what is causing this???...I have to run all my progs in safe mode for this not to happen...and I still have that Virus TIBS C which I haven't been able to delete...I downloaded DaRo Registry Fixer and it deleted a fixed a few errors,but didn't fix everything....I also downloaded Malware Sweeper which deleted a lot of other trojans..anyways..what other free program [trial version or not] can I download to fix my registry and keep me from re-installing XP???...and what is causing my PC to shut down??? thanks for any Help! Oh and my System Restore doesn't work,it won't restore to a previous point. I'm going to try and avoid re-installing my windows again,because I do have a lot of files on my PC I do not want to lose and I can't create backups because my CD Burner makes a lot of underrun errors which corrupts files...When you say ReFormat,what do you mean by that?

Virus Protection Change? I am now using Norton Internet Security 2007 and my computer is not running as fast as I would like it to. I do download music which may be part of the problem, but the annoying thing is that when I run a full Norton system scan, no viruses or spyware are ever found. Then when I run a good free scanner like BitDefender or ewido, they find a bunch of malware. Why can a free scanner find these problems, yet an expensive software like Norton cannot? Should I delete Norton and go for a free software combo like AVG + SpyTerminator, or should I stick with Norton?

Computer Virus Scan? Does anyone know where I can get a free online computer scan and clean the malware (viruses and junk) without downloading. I used Ewido for a long time but it doesn't work anymore, it expired. All answers are appreciated! Thanks!
